Jess & Prince | Heart horse photoshoot with an Off the Track Thoroughbred | NSW

Jess is the epitome of the head over heels horse lover I live to serve. Her beautiful bay gelding Prince is her world.

Jess contacted me late last year about getting a photoshoot with her heart horse, Prince. Her ultimate goal? Memories of him all over her home.

My sessions are created with the intention of providing stunning art to decorate your walls, tables, bookshelves, so this was perfect!

Jess has built her relationship with Prince over several years, since she found him off the track. She wanted to capture Prince’s silly, curious nature, and the connection they have together, so invested in both a horse & rider and black background session.

Getting a day without rain in NSW this last season wasn’t an easy task – but we were hopeful! We booked it in and crossed all our crossables for a break in the weather.

Our black background session was overcast, but thankfully, rain free!

We set up the backdrop in a large shed and voila, we had our studio for the black background photoshoot. Prince wasn’t a big fan of all this “standing still” nonsense, so he certainly put my quick reactions to the test! It just goes to show that I only need a split second to get the perfect shot – if they move after, so what?! Luckily he was a master at showing off his cutest ears and sweetest expressions.

Jess split her session over two days, which is a perfect option for horses with a shorter attention span!

Jess’ agistment had a simple grassy paddock down the back that was perfect for capturing natural memories of their connection. We had a short break in the endless rain for a brief – VERY brief – glimmer of sunshine. The paddock was terribly muddy, but between carefully scoping out some less squidgy spots and a LOT of towels, we made it work.

Prince was much more willing to stand still with his mum by his side. He loved getting up close to Jess, sniffing her hands and giving her kisses. This is the kind of deep connection I love to capture!

I was IN LOVE with how Jess’ tattoos looked, so I positioned her in ways which showed them off.

Jess’ lovely long gown paired beautifully with the long grass and the hints of sunlight, giving her the magical fantasy photo session and gorgeous artwork she was after.

I loved using my nifty software to project artwork onto your own walls, so we can choose the best size for your space! You can see here the beautiful selection Jess and I designed for her walls:

So grateful to have met Jess, Prince and helped her cover her home in her best friend!
