Use the slider to see where I’ll be the O.P this year!

In the case of a scheduling conflict, I’ll be sourcing another photographer to secure your memories.

HSP offers private client event photography, where I can be your paparazzi for a day! This covers your time with your team, in the warm-up,  time in the ring and candid moments from across your day. This documentary style experience is the most fun when organised with a group of friends, your agistment or stud.

02. BEFORE YOUR COMPETITION

Book your ride
Booking your ride costs just $10 and comes off of your final purchase via a coupon code. The booking fee can be refunded or rolled over if you need to scratch or arenas run late.

Booking guarantees priority coverage, priority upload after the show, and priority editing once you place your order.
Note: for those riding twice, it only guarantees coverage of one performance. Where there are two bookings for the same time-slot, priority will be given to the first to pay: your time-slot is not secured until payment is received.

To book, email with:
-Name (as on draw)
-Bridle number
-Horse name (as on draw)
-Time and Arena number
-Description of horse
-Email
-Mobile number
-Preferred level or test
to be covered

Pre-register
Since the start time can be pretty flexible in many horse events, the safest bet is to pre-register.

Shortly before your event, I’ll post a link to my social media. Follow Half Steps Photography on Facebook or Instagram to stay up to date!

WHERE THERE IS A TIMED DRAW (I.E. DRESSAGE)

WHERE THERE IS NO TIMED DRAW (I.E. SHOWING, SHOWJUMPING)

Bookings close minimum 5pm the evening before -check social media for exact cut offs. If you've missed the cut off, you'll still be able to pre-register.

Email to book.

1. Click the ‘View Proofs’ link to take you to your proof galleries.
2. Select your event and navigate to your images
3. When you like an image, select the love-heart to add an image to your shortlist of favourites.
4. Click favourites from the menu up the top. Add the ones you really love to your cart.
5. Click checkout. Note that ‘shipping’ sometimes shows for digital orders, but never goes through to the final amount once you go through to PayPal. Unfortunately this is a glitch on the website which can’t be fixed.
Triple check that your entered email is correct, as this is where your photos will be sent.
6. Pay via either PayPal or direct deposit. If you haven’t received your order within 3 days (week after the show) or within 10 days (one + week after the show) please email me, as the email with your order may have been misplaced.

Note - there are discounts for 5, 10 and 15 images. Often these can end up saving you money - for example, it’s cheaper to buy 10 photos than to buy 7, 8 or 9. These discounts are activated once you put 5, 10 or 15 images into your cart.

Photos are sent via a site called ‘WeTransfer’ and download in a .zip file - many phones are unable to extract this. You can either download an app which can extract images from Zip files (e.g. WinZip), use your computer, or request files be emailed individually.

Note that your files from WeTransfer only last one week, so download and save them to a couple of places. If you haven’t received your order within 3 days (week after the show) or within 10 days (if you ordered more than a week after the show) please email me.

+ who owns the copyright to these images?

Under Australian Law, copyright remains with the photographer who took the picture for their lifetime and a further 70 years.

When you buy a photo, you are buying a copy of the image with a particular set of rights, known as licencing.

Images available via my galleries are available for an indefinite personal use licence. This excludes you from using the image to make a profit. For example, under a personal use licence, you could put your photograph on a mug for your own use or to gift a friend - but you could not produce a range of mugs with the photograph to sell on to the public. If you wanted to do that, you would need permission and to purchase a commercial use licence. Think of it as you would a book - you only buy a copy. You would not then own the story and be able to produce copies of the same story to sell on.

With a personal use licence, it also means that if someone approached you to use a photo of yourself for their business (e.g. a sponsor), because you do not own the copyright, you don’t have the rights to give them that permission. The business would need to contact the photographer.

The line between personal use and commercial use can become difficult when you own a business, such as training and selling horses, or even a non-equine business where you wish to use an image in your promotional material. When in doubt, it is best to contact your photographer to confirm the permitted uses of your image.

frequently asked questions

+ Can I screenshot these images?

No.
Screenshotting images is legally considered theft. In doing so you are agreeing to be charged via invoice.

+ Are your images edited?

Images are edited upon purchase.

Usually, I only upload unedited proofs. Occasionally I will upload lightly edited versions. Edits upon purchase include cropping, straightening, adjusting lighting and clarity. Please note that my image style is more “bright and airy” than “dark and moody”. This is a signature of my work and can not be altered.

+ Can I get additional edits on these images, e.g. remove a person or object?

Yes.
This can be anywhere from a further $5-$50, depending on the intensity of the manipulation. Some drastic edits may not be feasible. Please contact me for an exact quote.

+ Can I put instagram filters on your images?

No.
This is because it misrepresents my work to potential clients and may degrade the quality of the photograph. Please contact me for permission before manipulating the work in any way, such as a graphic designer creating breeding/sales advert.

+ What is the turnaround time for editing?

The week after your competition: 1-3 days
8+ days after your competition: 3-10 days

This is because I clear out my schedule to process these images in the week immediately after your competition. If you order your images later, I am often working on other events or photoshoots, so I can’t guarantee I’ll process them as quickly.

Note - if you selected additional edits, e.g. object or person removal, these may take longer.

+ Do I need to credit you on social media?

Tagging @halfstepsphotography on social media is greatly appreciated, but not compulsory.
I love to see you sharing my work and re-post tagged images to my Instagram stories where I can.

+ Can sponsors re-post or re-share these images?

Sponsors can share your images, but not download or re-post.
If sponsors wish to re-post images themselves, use them as part of their ongoing promotion or website, they can purchase a commercial licence through the gallery page.

+ What sizes are the images, and can I print them?

Images can be purchased in social media size, which is insufficient for printing (2048px on the longside, 72dpi) or high resolution (up to 6700px on the longside - note this varies based on crop) at 300dpi.

+ Can I buy prints from you?

Yes! I have a range of loose prints, canvases and very cool acrylic blocks available in your gallery. When you add your photo to cart, select ‘prints’ instead of digitals.

+ How do I order photos?

1. Click the ‘View Proofs’ link to take you to your proof galleries.
2. Select your event and navigate to your images
3. When you like an image, select the love-heart to add an image to your shortlist of favourites.
4. Click favourites from the menu up the top. Add the ones you really love to your cart.

+ How long will my gallery be available for?

Due to limited space, I remove event galleries after every 2-3 events. Pending on the time of year, this can be anywhere from 2 weeks to 3 months. Once the gallery is removed, there is a $10 re-upload fee which will come off of your purchase price via a coupon code.

+Can I see the image without the watermark to help me make my choice?

Please email with what part of the image you would like to see (e.g. rider face, horse’s mouth), and I will send you a close up of that part of the image, sans watermark.

+ Can I purchase images without a watermark?

Proof galleries include a large watermark to prevent theft. Social media sized images include a small signature, in the form of my logo. High resolution files include no signature. Prints purchased through me also include no signature.

+ How much do the images cost?

Download a price list here.

+ How long does the early bird special last?

Event images include an early bird special - this usually ends at 9am the Wednesday following a Sunday event, but can vary. Check social media for the most up to date information - @halfstepsphotography on Facebook and Instagram.

+ Who owns the copyright to these images?

Under Australian Law, copyright remains with the photographer who took the picture for their lifetime and a further 70 years.

ARE YOU LOOKING FOR A DEDICATED PHOTOGRAPHER TO COVER YOUR EVENT AND DO IT

I'm an  equestrian event photographer covering Greater Sydney.

Being a member of a club committee myself, I know how much hard work goes into planning and executing these events! Your hard work deserves to be represented by photographs which do your event justice.

While I specialise in dressage, I’m available for any event and horse show, including show jumping, hack and agricultural shows, reining, western pleasure... I love any day I get to work around horses, no matter the sport! I apply the same level of detail to every disciplines. That means learning the patterns, walking the course, getting the best angles and moments  so your competitors keep sharing images and promoting your club in the process.

WHAT I OFFER YOUR CLUB:

Free event coverage

Un-edited proofs made available online for competitors within 24-48 hours of event finish

Purchased images edited for riders in 1-3 business days when purchased in the week following the event, or 3-10 business days when purchased afterwards

Images sorted into individual albums where possible for rider's convenience

No travel charge for events within a 90 minute (toll-free) distance or 45 minute tolled distance

A sample of ridden images supplied to the club committee for advertising purposes (with credit to Half Steps Photography) to be negotiated with committee. The club can also request copies of all images purchased by competitors.

Additional images for club promotion may be negotiated (e.g. prizes; committee headshots; prize-giving)

Comprehensive coverage of competitors, including performance and candid moments so they’ll never forget your event

You’ve spent too long planning this show to have competitors walk away with average photos.

SOUND FAMILIAR?

Your competitors spend hours after their show sifting through one gallery where everyone's photos are lumped in together. They finally find their pictures and are disappointed. Somehow there are 50 of them and still not even a single good shot - they’re all taken at the wrong moments.

They feel ripped off.

Instead of posting the photographs everywhere of YOUR show and promoting your club, they figure they’ll wait for pictures from the next show.

incredible photographs

I say, let’s give your competitors

which have them remembering your event and

promoting your club

Long after the day has gone.

If you’re after a photographer who takes the time to learn the patterns, walk the course, and know the good shots before they photograph any equestrian sport, then you’ve come to the right place.

hI, i'M lEXI

05. event sponsorship

I love giving back to the equestrian community as often as I can.  If your committee is in need of donations of prizes, please let me know.

Where I am not the OP, I can donate photo-session experiences starting at value of $290+
Where I am the OP, I can donate vouchers for image purchases, starting at value of $25+

Please note that for any cash sponsorships, the ability to set up my pop-up studio at a covered area or stable block during one of your events is essential.
